Introduction about ISO File/ Image
ISO file, also called ISO image file, is an "image" of the entire CD, DVD or Blu-ray Disc. The whole contents of a disc can be perfectly represented in a single ISO file, with the file extension .iso. It is an uncompressed archive file, the contents of which can be extracted to a folder by most compression/decompression software programs, like 7-Zip or WinZip.
DVD ISO file: an uncompressed archive file of the contents of a DVD.
Blu-ray ISO file: an uncompressed archive file of the contents of a Blu-ray Disc.
Why use ISO file?
The single ISO file contains all the contents of an optical disc. Therefore, it can be used to replicate CD/DVD/Blu-ray Disc to computer hard drive for a backup or further creation to discs. And it is often used to distribute large programs over the Internet. ISO image file can be mounted to a virtual drive as if a physical disc was loaded in the drive, so it is more convenient for further DVD/Blu-ray disc burning.
How to Open ISO file on the computer?
.ISO is not a file format that Windows or Mac can open natively. If you want to play the ISO file, typically you will need to burn the ISO file to a CD/DVD/Blu-ray disc with a burning program like Nero, or ImgBurn. Here list two ways you can open the ISO file on your computer before burning.
1. You can load ISO file on your computer with compression/decompression software programs, such as WinRAR.
2. You can also mount ISO files to a virtual drive and run the file like if it was a CD/DVD/BD by installing Deamon Tools or Alcohol 120, etc.
